A student of mine recently shot this video on the job in Alaska. These analyzers are fairly typical for measuring exhaust emissions from large combustion engines. Called "CEMS" (Continuous Emissions Monitoring System), they measure the concentrations of such pollutants as NOx and CO, which may be controlled (within certain ranges) by engine tuning.

Noise under control. Continuous acoustic monitoring at the Sindelfingen plant. Over 35000 workers, working in three shifts produce around 400000 cars per year - this means a lot of noise in the surrounding residential area. But not so in Sindelfingen. All is quiet around the Mercedes-Benz plant. In order that the residential area around the Sindelfingen location is not disturbed by noise, Daimler has taken innovative noise reduction steps. Thanks to continuous acoustic monitoring on the factory grounds noise emissions are always under control.
